Biography

Born and raised in San Marino California, Toby began studying cello at age 5. He has performed at various musical venues as a soloist, a chamber musician, and as a member of numerous string ensembles. In the summer of 2007, Toby attended the ENCORE School for Strings studying with renowned Israeli cellist Zvi Plesser. He has worked with and studied with a variety of other cellists and pedagogues around the world including: Nathaniel Rosen, Sharon Robinson, David Krieger, Uri Vardi, Jeffrey Solow, Raphael Wallfisch, and Pablo Mahave-Veglia. Toby studied viola da gamba and Baroque cello with John Moran at the Peabody Conservatory and received Master's degrees in cello performance and Pedagogy under the tutelage of Alan Stepansky. While finishing his performance degrees Toby completed degrees in education with Dr. Harlan and Laura Parker also at the Peabody Conservatory. Among his other performing obligations, Toby plays with the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra in Pennsylvania and his chamber group in Washington DC. Throughout the years, both in Los Angeles and Baltimore, Toby has taught a variety of students and sees music education as an integral part of his motivating passions.
